Learn Dynamic Analysis and Critical Decision Making
The REAL Immersion Program engages you to wrestle with real business transitions. These challenges may have been mentioned in news or featured in a few conferences, but were never truly breached to reveal the range of possible actions or responses. By gaining this type of experience, as a scholar or manager, you will deepen your understanding and sharpen your decision-making skills. We will train you to have a more holistic view, without missing the importance of granular distinctions. Most importantly, it helps you to appreciate the ramifications of your actions or inaction as a future leader. You will interact at the appropriate governmental, corporate, community, and individual levels.

The program could be considered a “real-time case study” where you will acquire a 360-degree perspective on tomorrow’s industries’ most pressing conundrums. Touch and experience cutting-edge innovative products or services, review the structure of operations  and gain insight into the viewpoint of senior executives. Weigh the public impact from the government regulators. Discuss and learn  from  business professors and your fellow Scholars. Contribute your perspective and help make decisions that influence positive impact. The REAL Immersion Program was developed to train you to see business challenges from multiple angles and to seek out solutions from even the most unexpected sources.

UPCOMING REAL PROGRAMS

TBD - 2011
3-Day Experience | Montego Bay, Jamaica
From Burnt Sugar to Clean Energy – Renewable Energy in the Caribbean Basin

The REAL Immersion Program - Renewable Energy targets some of the most pressing issues the Latin America and Caribbean sugar cane industry is facing. Faced with stiff competition particularly from South East Asian sugar producers and stripped of subsidies from the UK, the Caribbean sugar market is dying. At the same time, there exists an opportunity for the industry to transition to producing sugar-cane based ethanol, a growing market. Pressing questions for this industry include:

  • What high- caliber job and investment opportunities will be available?

  • How will Brazil’s dominant ethanol market be a partner in the regional market’s transition?

  • Will government and industry leaders play in easing the transition for farm workers?

Relevant Experience
The first day you will hear from a sugar cane worker, who slaves hours a day cutting sugar cane with a machete: how will his life be affected by this industry in transition? The experience continues by discussing with various operational leaders as well as our Experience Panel consisting of sugar company executives, government leaders, and industry experts (regional and global) that will provide you with a pragmatic perspective. These conversations may take place at various corporate locations while others will take place as special evening events.

Academic Learning
The second day features an in-depth lecture and forum from one of the region’s academic instructors, a top professor from the University of West Indies, Graduate School of Business.  This instructor will be paired with a top professor from either the United States or Brazil.  Following the lecture will be an open Forum where you will ask questions of our Experience Panel and Academic Professors. Learn from the instructor's probing questions and the group’s grappling for solutions to those questions. Be part of the experience and discussion. Be part of the solution. On the 3rd day and final day, Crimson Oak Academy will host a spectacular evening dinner social cruise off the coast of historic Port Royal to celebrate the completion of your REAL Immersion Program.  This cruise provides another to enjoy the culture and continue to share your perspective with other Scholars on a fascinating experience.
